Frequently Asked Questions

Can I replace an old Electron or Valet system with a Deltacom System?
Yes you can! In most cases the wiring and cutouts can be reused as is. Just be sure there are a sufficient number of wires particularly from the door unit. The master units for old Electron or Valet systems are usually a lot larger that the Deltacom master unit but as you can see on our accessories page, there is a perspex adaptor plate you can order from us to adapt a Deltacom unit into the hole left in the wall by the old master.

Can I upgrade to video?
Yes! In many cases it is very simple to upgrade to video. The main considerations are:
1. Camera position. If the position of the current audio door unit is lower than desired for a normal video door unit, you can specify a "tilt back" version of our video door unit when you order so the camera is generally catching the face of the caller rather than their chest. Another way to overcome this is to keep the audio door unit but have a seperate dome camera mounted in a high position.
2. Wiring. Generally 2 additional wires are needed between the video door unit and any internal units that are to be upgraded to video. In many cases these additional wires may already be present, eg if Cat5 cable was used to intsall a 200S audio system as only 6 of the 8 wires would have been used.

How do I identify which model of Deltacom intercom I have?
Current Models
Compare your units to the photos on this website. The extra info below will also help you confirm.
200S Series :
A Medium room unit (standard brick size) for the 200S Series has the letters "200S" printed vertically in large letters on the label to the right of the buttons.
If you have a Music Master unit (the unit with digital clock and built in radio) for the 200S series it will have the word "MONITOR" above the button that is to the right of the Volume Slider and also the button after number 15 has the word "DOOR" above it.
If you have small units in the system (see photos on the website) then the system is defintely a 200S series system as only the 200S series has small units.
DJ 500 Series:
The room unit for DJ500 series system has 8 numbered room buttons.
The DJ Music Master unit (the unit with digital clock and built in radio) is common between the DJ 500 Series and DJ 1000 Series. It can be identified by confirming that the word "AUX" is above the button to the right of the volume slider.
DJ 1000 series:
The room unit for the DJ1000 series system has 16 numbered room buttons.
The DJ Music Master unit (the unit with digital clock and built in radio) is common between the DJ 500 Series and DJ 1000 Series. It can be identified by confirming that the word "AUX" is above the button to the right of the volume slider.
Obsolete Models
Front Door Answering :
This is a very simple system with usually only one or 2 room units and a door units. The room unit looks similar to the 200S series medium room unit but it has less buttons and does not have a "Monitor", "Music" or "Privacy" button. Even though it is obsolete, a front door answering system can be easily replaced by the 200S series as the housing size is identical and the wiring can usually be reused as is.
Deltacom 7:
The room units for the Deltacom 7 system look very similar to the 200S Series medium room units except they do not have "200S " printed on the label that is around the buttons and in some cases they have "Deltacom 7" printed there instead.
Even though the Deltacom 7 system is obsolete it can easily be replaced by a 200S Series system as the housing size is identical and the wiring can usually be reused as is.

Is the 200S series compatible with the DJ500 or 1000 series?
No. The 200S series is not electrically compatible with the DJ 500 and DJ1000 series system. However, you can easily swapout an old DJ500 or DJ1000 system with the simpler and more cost effective 200S system as the 200S system needs less wires (6 for audio, 8 for video) than the DJ500 series (8 for audio, 10 for video) or DJ1000 series (10 for audio, 12 for video).
